The lap record fell on the new track as Eastland Kart Club’s postponed third points meeting of the season was completed on Sunday.

Ashley McMillan zipped around the track in 22.510s to set a new fastest time by only 0.057s while Shaun Barwick earned driver of the day and Shane Murrell had a mixed day that ranged from victory to a black flag.

Drivers were champing at the bit to go racing after the round was rained out the previous weekend.

In the main feature race held at the end of the meeting, 16 karts lined up to do battle over 15 laps.

Racing was to a high standard and enjoyed by drivers and spectators alike – the joker lap making for exciting viewing.

McMillan set the new lap record en route to third, but it was Harley Davis who came out on top for the win with Barwick second.

Third-placed McMillan was followed by Mike Vita and Luca Vita, who got to the lead only to lose it in a tangle with Daniel Taylor, who ended up sixth.

In the kids’ feature race over eight laps, Kolten Irvine took the win from sister Pyper Irvine with Nixen Gooch third.

Before racing proper starts, divers do timed laps to decide which group they start the day in.

The fastest qualify for group A, followed by the next lot in group B and the rest in group C.

This can change during the day depending on results. Drivers can go up or down groups.

Murrell won’t remember his timed laps fondly. He was presented his second black flag of the season – this one for doing his timed laps on the old track, which is shorter than the new one. His previous indiscretion was for when his neck brace fell on to the track.

Despite that, he bounced back with a group C win and had a laugh about the wrong track incident later.

In group A, Barwick won all three races, Davis had three seconds and third placings were shared by Taylor, Mike Vita and son Luca.

Group B wins went to Luca Vita, Tyler Barwick and Logan Irvine. Seconds went to Lyn Lyle, Tessa Irvine and Ben Adcock, and third placings went to Tessa Irvine, Dion Lund and Lyle.

Group C race winners were Murrell, Ben Adcock and Roger Moss while Hamish Worsnop had two seconds, Dallas Wanda had a second, and Barry Irvine, Moss and Murrell picked up thirds.

The rookies and juniors race together – the younger rookies starting behind the juniors.

Wins were spread among Pyper Irvine, Jose Govender and Gooch.

Govender got two seconds and Gooch was second in the other.

Pyper Irvine had two thirds and top rookie driver Kolten Irvine collected a third.

The next points meeting is on Sunday. Racing starts from 10am.
