SWIMMING

JODIESHA Kirkpatrick made waves with her times at the Division 2 national swimming championships at the Moana Pool in Dunedin this month.

Comet Swimming Club’s Kirkpatrick, 12, medalled in 10 of the 13 events she contested.

Swimming in the girls’ 12/13-year age group, she set three Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay records and three club records.

The Comet team of Kirkpatrick, Shanice McNabb, Samantha Durston, Katelyn Grimson, and Hayley Durston travelled with the HBPB contingent to Dunedin, along with coaches Bianca Shaw (Comet) and Gary Knight (Greendale).

Kirkpatrick won the 100-metre butterfly with a new personal best (PB) time, Comet club record and HBPB record; the 200m butterfly with a four-second PB; and the 200m breaststroke.

She was second in the 50m breaststroke with a new PB, Comet club record and HBPB record; the 100m individual medley in a Comet club record and HBPB record time; the 400m individual medley; and the 100m breaststroke.

Kirkpatrick was third in the 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley; and was part of the third-placed 8 x 50m inter-zonal relay team.

She was fourth in the 50m backstroke.

Shanice McNabb was sixth in the 15yr girls’ 50m freestyle and seventh in the 100m freestyle. She swam a PB in the 100m individual medley and was part of the third-placed inter-zonal relay team.

Samantha Durston was fourth in the 200m breaststroke and swam a PB in the 100m individual medley, which qualified her for the B Final for 16/17yr females. She also swam a PB in the 100m backstroke.

Hayley Durston qualified and swam in the 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 100m individual medley and 50m backstroke.

Katelyn Grimson qualified and swam in the 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 800m freestyle and 100m freestyle.
