The centre masters' 60-years-and-over optional pairs were held last week over two days, with the host club Poverty Bay providing eight of the 10 teams entered.
Poverty Bay's Lex Kennedy (skip) and Val McGreevy played well to win the event when they beat Gisborne's Robin Jefferson and Lesley McIntosh 18-10in the final.
In post-section play in the semifinals on the second day, Kennedy and McGreevy beat clubmates Jon Davies and Bruce Gledhill 18-13, while Jefferson and McIntosh accounted for Kahutia's Glenys Whiteman and Murray Duncan 20-12 in the other semifinal.
Consolation winners, also from Poverty Bay, were Tam Buckingham and Andrew Ball, with clubmates Betty Herring and Jill Atkins runners-up.
The centre junior selectors have announced the teams to represent Gisborne East Coast in a fixture against Hawke's Bay at the Wairoa Bowling Club on Waitangi Day, February 6.
The men's team, selected by Arthur Hawes: Nathan Trowell, Ashli Ferris, Geoff Pinn and Ron Robertson (Gisborne Bowling Club); Vern Withey (Wairoa BC), Alan Parker and Ray Young (Kahutia BC); and Andrew Ball (Poverty Bay BC).
The women's team, selected by Lyn Trueman: Raelene Tangiora (Wairoa BC); Angela Gibson-Sam, Diane Oates, Adrienne Torrie, Nanette Treloar and Karen Pinn (Gisborne BC); and Kathryn Flaugere and Joan Gledhill (Poverty Bay BC).
All players selected have five years of playing experience or less.
