It’s Warren Gibb’s year. He played great bowls to win the New Zealand Mixed Fours local final with Doc Tipene, Molly Young and Coralie Campbell-Whitehead in his team.

They won a tight final 7-6 on a deciding end against David Lynn, Bruce Easton, Lois Lamont and Journey Hihi.

In the nine-end final, Lynn’s team were 3-1 up after two ends, but Gibb drew shots on ends 3 and 4 to draw even, 3-3.

Lynn’s team picked up one point on ends 5 and 6 to be 5-3 up, but again Gibb’s team came back to pick up a shot on End 7 to be 5-4 down.

One point on End 8 to Lynn put them 6-4 up but, on the final end, Gibb’s team dug deep to get two points and draw the game 6-6, with Gibb playing outstanding bowls to keep his team in the hunt.

In a deciding end to find the winner, the teams went bowl for bowl. With Lynn’s team in a potentially winning position, Gibb with his second-last bowl pushed the kitty back for shot. Lynn drew centimetres short to give Gibb’s team a win that gives them a spot in the NZ Mixed Fours zone final in July against Thames Valley, Tauranga, Bay of Plenty and Waikato.

Coralie Campbell-Whitehead was consistent throughout the day. She gained her ninth centre title, Young celebrated winning her first title, Tipene won his sixth title and Gibb notched up title No.19.
