“Some calls went against us in the final minute, when it was tied up with 60 seconds to go.
“The result should have been a draw in my view.”
Te Rito said the girls played the more controlled game they had been working on.
“They stuck to the game plan and I was really happy with that.
“Every one of them did very well. It was a really good team effort.”
She was especially pleased with the play of Atlee Wainohu, at wing defence, then later at centre.
High School Old Girls coach Tanya Owen said she and her girls were disappointed with the performance.
“They — and I — don’t think they stuck to the game plan.
“They played very individually, and while they gave the match everything they could, they gave it in the wrong ways at times,” Owen said.
Katie Kirkpatrick came on for them again halfway through the second quarter and brought more speed, intensity and control into the HSOG midcourt.
“The pairing between Courtney Stubbins and Katie was outstanding,” Owen said.
“They worked tirelessly and very well together.
“The result shows we still have so much work to do as a team.
“But we will gladly take the points for the win.”
In Wednesday night’s matches at the YMCA, Whangara Old Girls play Claydens Waikohu, and YMP Sunshine Brewery take on Horouta Gold.
