HSOG have edge in form over Whangara

The four top netball teams in Gisborne take the court at the YMCA tonight. One game should be decided on form, but the other could be close.

In-form Taste One High School Old Girls play the rebuilding Whangara Old Girls (1) in Pak’nSave premier grade netball at 6pm.

“HSOG have been playing well as a team, on attack and defence,” netball commentator Sherrill Beale said.

“The Whangara players are still developing their understanding of each other’s play.”

Whangara struggled to beat equal-bottom-of-the-table Horouta Gold last week in a match decided by a single goal.

“Whangara will need a full team effort to stop High School Old Girls’ flow,” Beale said.

The other match should be a lot tighter.

At 7.30pm, YMP Sunshine Brewery play Claydens Waikohu (1).

“Both of those teams have been pushed by lower-seeded opposition this round,” Beale said.

Waikohu struggled to beat Ritana Senior A late last month, finishing only three goals in front.

Ritana and Horouta share bottom spot on the points table.

“YMP Sunshine Brewery won by six goals the last time they played Waikohu,” Beale said.

“I expect another close game tonight.”

The premier grade points table has Waikohu on 16 points from four games, HSOG and YMP on 12 from three, Whangara on eight from four, Gisborne Girls’ High School Senior A on five from four, and Ritana and Horouta on two from four.
