GISBORNE clubs Horouta Waka Hoe and Mareikura opened their medal accounts on day two of the waka ama sprint nationals on Lake Karapiro yesterday.
The Horouga Hianga crew won bronze in the final of the midget men’s W6 250 metres and Mareikura’s Hinewaiapu followed that with silver in the midgetwomen’s W6 250.
Both crews added second medals to their club tally in W6 500 finals later in the day — Horouta Hianga placing second and Hinewaiapu third.
Mareikura crew Manutinihanga ended the day with third in the midget men’s W12 250.
Today features junior 16 and intermediate races and tomorrow is the W1 races in which paddlers represent their regions, in Gisborne’s case, Te Uranga o te Ra.
