July Hoepo and Jessie Davis-Law are the Bowls Gisborne-East Coast men’s and women’s players of the year.
The awards, decided on points accumulated during the season, were recognised in the centre prizegiving at the Poverty Bay Bowling Club at the weekend.
Hoepo, of the Kahutia Bowling Club, won theMartin Cup for men’s open singles, the Weatherley Brothers Memorial for men’s open pairs (with Leighton Shanks), the Terry Gardiner Memorial Trophy for men’s open triples (with Gerry Kora and Kelly Te Miha), the J.J. Martin Memorial Trophy for men’s open fours (with Shanks and brothers Kyle and Liam Pinn), the Peace Shield for men’s open fours (with Shanks and the Pinn brothers) and the Bowls Gisborne-East Coast Player of the Year Cup for centre men’s bowler of the year.

Davis-Law, of the Poverty Bay Bowling Club, won the Judy Blair Cup for women’s open triples (with Anita Vaotuua and Cheryl Jenkins), the Rahiwi Cup for women’s open fours (with Vaotuua, Jenkins and Deborah Hancock), champion of champions senior women’s pairs (with Jenny Amor), champion of champions senior women’s fours (with Vaotuua, Amor and Jenkins), champion of champions senior mixed pairs (with Marc Alexander) and the Bowls Gisborne-East Coast Player of the Year Cup for centre women’s bowler of the year.
She was also in the winning Poverty Bay women’s team in the interclub sevens (with Vaotuua, Amor, Lesley Seymour, Kathryn Flaugere, Jenkins, Dianne Phillips and Hancock) and the intercentre women’s team (with Vaotuua, manager Flaugere, Jackie Horsfall, Dayvinia Mills, Joanne Wroe, Diane Murray, Carol Hawes, Marise Raklander and selector Bobbie Beattie).
Kyle Pinn, of Kahutia, was awarded the T.B. Gardiner Junior Men Cup for most improved junior men’s player.

The Fisken Cup for the men’s senior interclub sevens went to the Gisborne team of Andrew Ball, Malcolm Trowell, Warren Gibb, Charlie Ure, Steve Goldsbury, Shaun Goldsbury, Chris Bunyan and manager Peter Ferris.
The intercentre men’s side comprised Andrew Ball, Shaun Goldsbury, Murray Glassey, Warren Gibb, Steve Berezowski, Vern Alder, player-selector Malcolm Trowell and manager Rin Nepe. – Compiled from centre reports
