The Eastland Tri Club’s annual Whanau Fun Tri may not have attracted huge numbers but the club’s Kate Ney said for those who came it was “fun”.

“Participants ranged from people doing their first triathlon, to high-schoolers tuning up for the East Coast Secondary School event, to families out for some active smiles and time together,” Ney said.

“The youth especially loved the hydroslide bands — thanks Olympic Pool — and there was heaps of laughter as they cooled off. Some families brought a picnic to enjoy at the pools afterwards.

“Yoko Houthuijzen pretty much summed up the general feeling when she said, ‘We all loved it’, which was what the day was all about.”
