MERRAN Hain and Untouchable are leading the EJ Gordon Show Hunter Series for Horses, with 12 points. Isobel Bevitt, with Where’s Wally, and Sophie Petro, with Wainui Soda Pop, are equal first in the pony section, on six points. In the Bernina Sewing Centre Showjumping Series, Holly Baines and Pre Mo are leading, on 11 points. In the ponies, Hannah Wallbank has Splash of Panache and Ahi in equal first place, on 11 points.

These jumping series started at the Pony Club Sports and will continue to the last local show, at the Larsen Sawmilling Gisborne Showjumping Championships at the end of January. Points will be gained at the A&P Show, the two competitions in November and December and the Waerenga o Kuri Sports and the Wairoa show in January.

At the Eastern Bay Jumping and Show Hunter Show, held at Te Teko, Sam Brooks had another successful weekend. He was third in the Category A pony 60-centimetre jump and fourth in the Category A Horse-of-the-Year-qualifying 60cm show hunter classes.

Fraser Tombleson also had a good start to the season. Mea I had wins in the 1.20m Welcome Stakes and 1.25m, and a second placing in the 1.35m championship. With Jerry, Tombleson was fourth in the 1.10m; with Kiwi Coronation, he was second in the seven-year-old horse series and third in the 1.20m; and with Centra, he won the five-year-old series class.
