GISBORNE had 21 gymnasts at the Eastern Bay of Plenty Championships in Whakatane.

In Step 1, Gisborne Gymnastics Club had four girls competing for the first time —Imogen Amor-Bendall, Stephanie Collier, Ella Arthur and Charlie Keepa.

The Gisborne Team 1 — Ralo Bright, Danielle Blair, Imogen Amor-Bendall and Stephanie Collier — won bronze in the team event.

Ralo Bright placed second overall, won the uneven bars and floor, and was third on vault and fifth on beam.

Imogen Amor- Bendall was eighth overall, and was first on vault and fifth on beam.

Danielle Blair placed ninth overall, and was fifth on uneven bars.

Ella Arthur’s best result was seventh place on vault. The best apparatus for Stephanie Collier and Charlie Keepa was vault.

In Step 2, Gloria Allen placed second overall, and won gold on uneven bars, silver on beam, and bronze on vault and floor.

Charli Candy placed third overall, and won silver on uneven bars and bronze on vault.

Danielle van Aswegen, Silke McNaught and Lily Beaufoy won gold in the Step 3 team event.

Gymnasts shine at Whakatane competitionLily Beaufoy placed third overall, and won vault and floor.

Danielle van Aswegen was fourth overall, and placed second on vault, and fourth on uneven bars and beam.

Silke was fifth overall, and won silver on uneven bars and bronze on floor. She was fourth on vault and sixth on beam.

Team Gisborne — Jessica Dungan, Gabrielle Wong and Mikaylah Tamati — won gold in the Step 4 girls’ team event.

Gabrielle Wong was third overall, and won silver on uneven bars and bronze on floor. She placed fifth on vault and beam.

Jessica Dungan placed fourth overall, and won bronze on uneven bars. She placed fourth on vault and beam, and sixth on floor.

Mikaylah Tamati was fifth overall and won bronze on vault and beam. She placed fifth on floor and uneven bars.

The Level 1 boys’ team — Callum Hawkins, Maxwell Kennedy, Jackson Horne and Cameron Walters — won gold.

Callum Hawkins placed second overall, and won gold on high bar, and silver on floor, pommel and parallel bars. He placed fifth on vault and sixth on rings.

Maxwell Kennedy won bronze overall, and won gold on vault, and bronze on floor and rings. He placed fourth on high bar, and sixth on pommel and parallel bars.

First time competitors do wellJackson Horne competed for the first time and was fourth overall. He won bronze on the high bar and placed fourth on floor and rings. He was fifth on pommel and parallel bars, and sixth on vault.

Cameron Walters was seventh overall. He won silver on rings, and placed fourth on parallel bars and pommel. He was sixth on floor and high bar.

In Level 2 boys, Liam Walters won gold overall. He also won gold on floor, pommel, vault, parallel bars and high bars. He placed fourth on rings.

His brother Daniel won silver overall, and won silver on floor, pommel, vault and high bar. He placed third on rings and parallel bars.

Level 3 boy Lukas Ludwig placed seventh overall, and won gold on vault and bronze on high bar. He placed fourth on pommel and sixth on floor.

All competitive gymnasts are working on new skills and head coach Nicola Ludwig is searching for new competitive talents in the club and region. A new pre-competitive squad will be formed in Term 1, 2016. All interested gymnasts will need to pass their entry test. Those interested should watch for the date on the Gisborne Gymnastics Club website.
