Five gymnasts from the Gisborne Gymnastics Club competed in the Mid Island Gym Sports competition in Rotorua at the weekend.

For these five gymnasts, who compete in the upper national level, it is important to compete in other regions to gain qualification scores for the national championships to be held in Tauranga in July.

Aria Thorpe competed in Step 5 and bettered her scores in her second competition.

She placed fourth overall, and was sixth on vault and uneven bars, third on beam and fourth on floor.

Capria Tamatea competed in Step 6 and won bronze in the all-round event.
