THE three GMC teams in the hockey competition take the LJ Hooker turf in tonight’s games, and the Green Machine and Kowhai should emerge victorious.

The Round 7 encounters at 6pm and 7.30pm should produce plenty of goals, with YMP B and GMC Green in action first.

“The Green Machine need a smoother performance than last weekend against Paikea but they should have tonight’s game won by halftime,” commentator Tony Scragg said.

“The second match between GMC Kowhai and GMC Gold will probably be one-sided in Kowhai’s favour.

“They play well in the forwards and lie fourth in the women’s competition.”

Lytton Old Boys Masters can add to their record when they meet YMP B at 6pm tomorrow night.

“We beat them in Round 1 but it could have gone either way,” Masters player Scragg said.

“We can only field the bare 11 so that could affect the result dramatically.”

Gisborne Boys’ High School have a tough assignment against LOB A in the second game.

“Boys’ High showed last week they are finally finding some rhythm but they play a team searching for their mojo.

LOB A will play accordingly.”

In the three matches on Saturday afternoon, Gisborne Girls’ High School will have their hands full with YMP A at 1pm.

“I expect YMP to remain unbeaten and, while Girls’ High get better each time out, no one has been able to crack YMP’s defence so far and I cannot see Girls’ High doing it.”

At 2.45pm, the game between Paikea and Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa offers a real challenge for both teams.

“It should be the second-best game of the round,” Scragg said.

“These are two very even sides.

“Paikea did so well last weekend (in a 3-2 loss to GMC Green) and while they may be down a bit on numbers tomorrow, Ngatapa will not be able to take them lightly.”

Unbeaten YMP A play THC at 4.30pm in the men’s competition.

“That’s the top match of the round and tough to call, but you would have to favour YMP,” Scragg said.

“They play as a team and really dominate their opponents.”
