GISBORNE and Wairoa riders have had some good results at the early shows in the 2015/16 showjumping season.

Larina Dolman and last year’s seven-year-old series winner Kiwi Lansing have performed well in the Canterbury Equestrian Young Rider Series with a win at the Manawatu A & P Show and a second placing at Waipukurau A & P Show, as well as a win in the 1.30-metre class at Waipukurau.

She also had a first-equal placing in the Mitavite six-year-old series class and a third placing in the 1.20m class with Floriant DHU at Feilding IA & P Show last weekend.

Sister Sinead and her mount Kiwi Silverkee were second in the 1.20m and fifth in the Telford Junior Rider Series class at the Waipukurau Show.

Waipukurau proved to be a successful show for other Gisborne riders as well. Cousins Fraser Tombleson and Jenny Randall took out the quinella in the Caledonian Amateur Rider Series event.

Jenny and her horse Nero Bello also came first-equal in the Mitavite series class for six-year-old horses and first in the 1.15m.

Fraser and his horse Mia also won the champion round the ring jump and the wire jump.

Jessie McNeil picked up some good placings with a first, second and third in 1.10m classes on Air Hill Squaw Valley at Waipukurau and Te Teko shows, as well as several minor placings on Ngahiwi Rouge.

Wairoa’s Rachel Martin and Finesse were first-equal in the Mitavite six-year-old class at Hawke’s Bay Show. They were also first-equal with Jenny Randall and Nero Bello in the Prydes Two-bay Challenge, a competition run over the Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay shows with the winner being the horse, or horses, with the most points accumulated in national series classes at both shows.

Fellow Wairoa rider Trudi Mitchell has had success with LC Funny Lass coming first in the 1.20m championship, with LC Autograph coming third in the 1.20m class and with LC Tango coming third in the Super Series at the Mystery Creek Show.

Other local riders to have featured in the prize line-ups for minor placings are Caroline Parkes, Sam Spence, Caroline Coop, Jo Mackey and Lisa Walker.
