Poverty BayDudley Meadows is back to his near-best.

Meadows suffered a serious knee injury playing football last year, requiring surgery and a five-month recovery period before being able to return to the fairways.

On Sunday he shot 80-16-64, for 45 points, to win the division 2 stableford — form he will look to continue at the Gisborne Thistle AFC annual tournament at Gisborne Park this Sunday.

Meadows’ efforts denied Alan Baldwin, whose 91-26-65, for 43 points, was his lowest 18-hole score since a 91 in April 2015.

Mark Thomas (40pts), Ian Kirkpatrick (39) and Warwick Thompson (41) were the other weekend winners.

Ian “Spud” Murphy made the most of his first round on a double-digit handicap since late November of 2017.

The former Poverty Bay-East Coast representative and 2000 Poverty Bay Open champion won the division 1 men’s stableford last Thursday with 76-10-66, for 42 points.

Two players struck the jackpot of two twos over the week — club captain John van Helden on Thursday and Tene Goldsmith on Sunday.

Which did teenager Ellen Ball enjoy the most? Shattering her personal best gross score or beating dad Lyndsay off the stick in the Friday Flash stableford?

The teenager not only won the stableford with 85-24-61, for 49 points, she was two strokes superior to her father — four, actually, if you take into consideration the women’s par is 74 and the men’s is 72.

Gisborne ParkGlen McKinnon’s best round of 2018 was 81 on January 21.

It will be at least that in 2019.

McKinnon won the men’s stableford on Sunday with 81-17-64, for 44 points.

It has been a fair few rounds between sub-80 drinks for Karen McDonald . . . 39 to be exact.

McDonald signed for 79-10-69 on Sunday to win the women’s stableford with 40 points.

It came four days after combining with Margaret Alley to win the women’s drawn pairs combined stableford on Wednesday of last week. Alley contributed 39 and McDonald 38 to their 77-point total.

Roly Smith was second on 64 and Dick Cook and Pat Savage, who won round 1 of the cup, followed on 65.

PatutahiTony Green’s first 18-hole round of the year proved a winning one.

Green shot 76-14-62 in the Summer Cup on Sunday to win the men’s 0-16 net by one stroke from Whata Brown senior (76-13-63).

It made it two from two this year for Green, who shot 39 for 21 points to win the senior division of the Friday nine-hole stableford.

John Neilson emulated Green’s efforts. A 25-point haul won him the junior division of the Friday stableford and he followed it up on Sunday with 82-19-63 to win the 17+ division.

Denise Johnston (67) won the women’s division.
