Gisborne ParkPoverty Bay-East Coast Golf Association got a much-appreciated $1750 boost from golfers from clubs throughout the district at a fundraising tournament on Sunday.

Most of the clubs were represented in the field which included nearly all the players who will wear PBEC colours at the Freyberg Rosebowl masters at Timaru Golf Club from November 4 to 8 and the Toro national men’s interprovincial at Hastings’ Bridge Pa course from November 26 to 30.

One of those, Poverty Bay greenkeeper William Brown, won the division 1 men’s gross with 1-over 73 — a reflection of the challenge an excellently-presented course posed.

Tom Reynolds (Park) won the div 1 stableford with 40 points, Bruce Talbot (Pov Bay) the div 2 gross with 83 and Zach Rolls (Park) the division 2 stableford with 39 points.

Park player Jo Kerr’s 84 was good enough for the women’s gross honours while clubmate Pat Johansen’s 38 points headed off Waikohu’s Ella Wynyard’s 36 in the stableford.

There were a couple of hot rounds and an ace last week.

Just over a year after recording his career-first hole-in-one, Tony File doubled his ace tally on Friday. He added the perfect shot on Park’s 112-metre 14th hole to his hole-in-one on the seventh hole in September of 2018.

Horst Schreiber had his best round in over 2½ years on Saturday — 86-21-65, which won the men’s stableford with 43 points.
