STARS OF THE FUTURE: Anyone who still thinks golf is a game for the older generation should venture to the Poverty Bay course this week to check out the New Zealand amateur. Spotting a player over 30 is a bit like a Where's Wally challenge. Among the youthful set is Queenstown 12-year-old Yoonae Jeong, the youngest player in the 97-strong field. Her playing group yesterday also featured a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old. Otago representative Jeong shot 78 yesterday to be tied for 15th as the female field battle for a place in the top 16 for the matchplay championship that decides the title. Picture by Paul Rickard

THE King of the Coast extended his realm to the Country on Sunday.

William Brown won the men's King of the Country three months after claiming his first King of the Country at Tolaga Bay.

Denise Johnston won the Queen of the Country held alongside its King counterpart.

Brown threatened Tony Akroyd's April 2008 men's course record of 63 in his winning 36-hole total of 133 (64, 69).

His 6-under 64 featured eagles on the 274-metre par-4 third hole and 440m par-5 10th, along with five birdies and three bogeys.

A triple-bogey six on the ninth marred his otherwise immaculate 69 on Sunday and he finished the home straight ahead of runner-up Akroyd, who bounced back from 78 on Saturday with 69 on Sunday.

Johnston shot 81, 79 for a 160 total to win the Queen crown.
