Marg Colebourne, Teresa Lewis and Marg Lane have targets on their backs as the No.1 seeds in the women's club championships.

Colebourne topped the senior division and she and No.2 seed Anne Witters earned free passes to the semifinals stage.

Jan Utting, Lynne Holmberg, Gay Young and Mary Allan are battling for the other two spots.

Lewis heads the intermediate division, with all but two players getting byes to the quarterfinals.

Matchplay in the junior division starts at the semifinals stage. No.1 seed Lane is up against Sue Kemp while Sarah Eriksen faces Vicki Fraser, who won yesterday's par competition with a +4 effort.

IT'S two for the price of one round this weekend in round 3 of the Dodgshun Cup.

The round doubles as the one and only club championship qualifying round.

The Dodgshun Cup section winners will be decided on Sunday in round 4. Players count their best three of four scores over the series.

Heading into Saturday, Andrew Higham is heading the division 1 gross of the cup after adding 74 to his first-round 77 for a 151 total.

Simon Jeune (77, 75) is second a shot back, with Stefan Andreaasen (77, 76) another shot back in third.

But firmly in the mix is defending champion and reigning senior club champion William Brown, who had 74 in his first round but did not play in round 2.

Richard Foon holds a five-shot advantage in the intermediate division on 165 (80, 85).

Vance Richardson is on 170 (89, 81) and Tene Goldsmith 172 (90, 82).

Duncan Bush continues to dominate division 3. His 176 (89, 87) is 14 strokes clear of second-placed Kim Travers (101, 89).

The Dodgshun Cup also has a net section. Andreassen (141) leads division 1, Foon (144) division 2 and Bush (139) division 3.

Lee “Pikey” Hewson had his best round in well over a year in winning the division 2 men's stableford on Sunday. Hewson had a run of five pars as he won with 86-21-65, for 43 points.

Prolific club championship title winner Karen Hay has got her bid for a 20th women's senior crown off to a successful start.

Hay, who won her first senior title in 1975, top qualified with her Saturday round of 82.

Five-time intermediate champion Jean Foot also sent her opposition a strong warning in grabbing the No.1 seeding with a round of 95.

Carolyn Carpendale had to settle for runner-up in the junior final last year. Her campaign to go one better was boosted by earning the top seed spot with 104.

Three men's club championship round 1 matches have been completed.

Intermediate division seventh seed James Witika knocked out Glen McKinnon.

In the junior division, ninth seed Steve Phillips beat Mason Emery (8) while Paul Wellard (3) ousted Shaun Nepe (14).

Pete Stewart won both men's competitions over the weekend with 37 stableford points (off the white tees) on Saturday and net 72 (off the blues) on Sunday.

Coincidentally he was playing with his senior club championship second round opponent Rod Moore, who also had a net 72. Their match is on Saturday.

Intermediate: J Foot 95.

Junior: K Papuni 110.

Top qualifiers, senior: K Hay 82.

WEDNESDAY (Aug 3) — GRC Rosebowl women's competition, first round, stableford: K Hay 35, T Ford 35.

The draw for women's club championship matches on SATURDAY is — W Morrissey v R Taiapa, J Kerr v C Pipi.

Byes: K Hay, K White.

Regan Hindmarsh grabbed the No.1 seeding as round 2 of the men's club championships was completed on Sunday.

Hindmarsh had five birdies in his 2-under 68 to top-qualify by one shot from Reef Pohatu, whose round included two twos.

Dwayne Russell was third with a rollercoaster round of 70 that featured seven birdies — six of those on the front nine — and three double bogeys.

Five of the 10 players in the senior division got byes to round 2.

Tom Hindmarsh carried his King of the Coast form into qualifying. He shot 76 to top the 15-man intermediate division and advanced straight to the quarterfinals.

Reuben Mottart is the No.1 seed in the junior division and Dave Quinn is top seed in the four-man endeavour section.

SUNDAY — Club championship qualifying, round 2, men's net, senior division: T Hindmarsh 66, R Pohatu 67, R Hindmarsh 67, G Brown 69, T Brodie 69.

FRIDAY — Meat pack 9-hole stableford, senior division: A Nimmo 20, R Pardoe 19, C Taylor 18.

Junior division: G Maude 20. D Tarry 18, B Williams 16, M Smith 16.

Te Puia Springs

HAZEL Miratana powered past Hiria McClutchie and into round 3 of the intermediate women's club championship.

Miratana won the match and the women's stableford on Sunday with 85-21-64, for 40 points.

Peter Harrison had similar success. He won his Makarika Cup men's match against Peter Ngarimu and the men's stableford with 88-24-64, for 38 points.

Henry Rasmussen also stayed alive in the Makarika Cup with a win over Bill Clark.

SUNDAY — Women's stableford: H Miratana 85-21-64, 40; H McClutchie 95-24-71, 33; R Ngatai 94-23-71, 33.

Twos: R Ngatai.

Men's stableford: P Harrison 88-24-64, 38; J Forrester 82-17-65, 37; M Ayto 81-16-65, 37.

Te Rata Ritchie and Cheryl Te Rito had repeat Sunday wins at the weekend.

Te Rito followed up her women's stableford win on July 31 with another victory on Sunday — her 37 points the best score of men and women.

Ritchie also made it two stableford victories on the trot in the men's section.

Club championships start this weekend.

Sunday — Men's stableford: T Ritchie 34, P Milner 33, S Ritchie 32, L Green 32.

Women's stableford: C Te Rito 37, M Tuapawa 35, V Grace 34, Audrey Tamanui-Nunn 34.

SUNDAY (July 31) — Men's stableford: T Ritchie 36, R Reeves 36, E Reeves 35, L Green 34, S Te Rito 34.

Women's stableford: C Te Rito 32, M Tupawa 29.

Will Yates headed off father Bruce in the net on Sunday but Trent Higgs stole some of the limelight from the family one-two.

Will won with 64, one ahead of Bruce, with Higgs third on 66.

All three also had twos — Higgs had two of them plus won the putting (24) and the approach.

SUNDAY — Net: W Yates 64, B Yates 65, T Higgs 66.

Twos: T Higgs 2, W Yates, B Yates, A Hale.

Putting: T Higgs 24.
