Andy “Buckeye” Putnam played down his elevation to No.1 status on the Sean Shivnan Pharmacy men’s shootout qualifying board after finishing second in the division 2 men’s stableford division on Sunday.

Ohio native Putnam carded 88-21-67 (for 41 points) which promoted him to the top spot on the 2022 shootout board.

His 203 net total (69, 67, 67) has him sitting two shots ahead of Gray Clapham and age-breakers Tene Goldsmith and Cliff Poole.

Putnam put it down to being on such a high handicap as he happily accepted the Sunday School moolah for his efforts.

The division was won by Sunday School “camp mother” Paul Rickard on countback from Putnam.

Goldsmith went close to going under his age for the second time this year as he won the division 1 men’s stableford last Thursday. The 75-year-old fired 76-9-67, for 41 points.

Vance Richardson had a two in his division 1 stableford-winning 77-9-68, for 40 points, on Saturday.

Shot of the day went to George Brown, who holed out for eagle 2 with a 6-iron on the 369-metre stroke 1 15th hole — a five-pointer and net 1.

Oh what could have been for David Waihaki in the men’s net-minus-stableford on Sunday.

Waihaki won the competition with 82-14-68 for 41 points and an overall score of 28.

But a 10 on the par-5 eighth left a slightly bitter taste in his 19th-hole drink.

Still he could be well satisfied with a successful weekend of golf, having also helped Mahia to a big points haul in the Endeavour men’s interclub pennants held on the course on Saturday.

Elaine Westwood was out on her own in the second round of the Stevenson women’s net-minus-stableford. Her excellent 69-41-28 put her 10 ahead of second-placed Lil Morgan.
