THE women’s football league enjoyed great weather and great sportsmanship over the weekend.

Gisborne Laundry Services Thistle celebrated a 10-0 victory over United.

Thistle coach Blake Mulrooney said it was great to see a nice game in the morning sunshine.

“United have improved a lot,” he said.

“They have lots of new faces and put up a good fight.”

Mollie Mulrooney, Torepe Taumaunu-Kingi and Tori Williams played well, scoring a goal each, but it was a team effort, Mulrooney said.

Other scorers included Olivia Scott (two), Liz Hall, Larisa Mahns and goalie Erin Sycamore, who scored with a penalty.

“The game was well controlled by referee Mel Knight,” Mulrooney said.

Gisborne Girls’ High School had a 7-0 win against Lytton High School.

Girls’ High coach Matt Pierard said his side kept the ball moving, creating lots of chances.

“The girls played some nice football . . . they are getting a lot better at supporting each other.”

Girls’ High had a rough start but have risen to sit second on the table, behind Thistle. These two teams meet on Sunday.

“We will see if they can be a little bit more composed this weekend,” Pierard said.

Renee Holmes scored four goals, and Tyler Andrews, Kamaia Pomana and Maddison Reid scored a goal each.

Tatapouri Marist beat Campion College 3-0. Emily Willock and Kim-Maree Larby were outstanding. Willock scored two goals and Larby one.

Bohemians had the bye.
