Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) has announced the management team for the 2024 Lifesaving World Championships in Australia and two members of them are from Gisborne.

The group has been selected for crucial roles in coaching, team management and health for the Black Fins and Junior Black Fins teams.

Included are Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae’s and former world champion Cory Hutchings and clubmate Arna Majstrovic.

Hutchings will be involved in high performance coaching while Majstrovic will be the beach coach. Both are support roles.

Former Gisborne man Marcus Forbes will be manager of the Junior Black Fins.

“The team will work together to prepare and support our athletes as they compete at the world’s biggest competition in life saving sport,” SLNZ high performance manager Tanya Hamilton said.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil this management team. Their wealth of expertise, dedication and commitment will help guide and support our team.

“We are confident that with their help our athletes will make their mark on the global stage.”

The biennial event will take place on the Gold Coast and will run for three weeks from  August 20 to September 8, 2024.

Up to 7000 athletes from 50 countries, including Olympians and world champions, from youth to masters age groups, will take part in the competition, with an additional 12,000 supporters.

The pool events will be held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre at Southport while the ocean events will take place at Kurrawa Beach.su
