GISBORNE indoor bowlers Lois Lamont and Lyn Kay-Allen are in the North Island Academy squad to play their South Island counterparts at the national indoor bowls championships at Mt Maunganui next month.

Another Gisborne bowler, David Lynn, is the manager of the North Island Academy squad and the Northern Zone Masters squad.

Lamont has been picked to play in the women’s pairs with Tauranga’s Debbie Reed. They will be up against Nelson’s Jean McKenzie and Golden Bay’s Fiona Prosser.

Kay-Allen is one of two reserves in the North Island Academy squad.

The Academy and Masters squads are chosen from players attending the national championships. With entries for this year’s nationals well up on those for the same event at Timaru last year, the selectors had a lot more players to choose from.

The national indoor bowls championships will be played at the ASB Arena at Mt Maunganui from June 11 to 18, with the Masters and Academy fixtures to be played during the week.
