GISBORNE teenager Joshua Taylor-Martin set a Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay record in a tough opening two days of the Australian age group championships in Sydney.
Taylor-Martin placed eighth in the 10-man final of the 16 years boys’ 100 metres freestyle on day 1. His time of 52.42 seconds bettered the 52.59
he clocked in his preliminary heat to break the HBPB record of 53.39, dating back to 2007.
The young swimmer was frustrated on day 2 on Tuesday. He came 11th in the 50m freestyle preliminaries and missed out on the final by one place.
He repeated that result in the 400m free preliminaries, finishing 0.01 of a second behind the 10th qualifier.
