Gisborne golfers tee off women's national interprovincials in style

Gisborne's Tessa McDonald and Ellen Ball made emphatic starts to the women's national interprovincial golf championship in Bay of Plenty this morning.

McDonald, at No.1 in the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay team, and Ball, at No.2, brushed aside their opponents in a 4-1 team matchplay victory over Aorangi on the Tauranga course.

McDonald beat Angela Gerken 6 and 5 while Ball disposed of Lynda Brown by the same margin.

HBPB No.4 Kayla Van De Ven was even more convincing in thrashing her opponent 8 and 7, while No.5 Clare Choi won 3 and 2.

No.3 Martha Manaena lost 3 and 2.

HBPB faced defending champions Wellington in Round 2.
