“They beat Waikato Wanderers and Rotorua Rebels on Saturday night,” said team manager Scotty Ross. “Rotorua threw everything at us but the boys won well.”
On Sunday night, the much-vaunted Panthers stood in the Giants’ way for a place in the final.
“The race could have gone either way right to the last lap when the boys managed to stop the leading Panthers car, and Jason raced through to win it.”
The Giants faced Auckland All-Stars in the final and Ross said it turned out to be “a relatively comfortable win for the boys”.
Ethan Rees said the semifinals against the Panthers was “pretty tough” and while the final was easier, it was no cakewalk.
“They put up a good fight but we still had three cars finish.”
Ethan Rees crossed first to secure the title for the GiantsRees, who crossed first for the Giants to secure the title, said it was “pretty good to go back-to-back”.
Peter Rees said they were stoked and appreciated all the support the Gisborne club had given them. “We consider ourselves lucky to have that great support.”
The result added even more lustre to the Giants’ season.
They were runners-up in an epic contest in the ENZED Superstock Teams Championships last month in Palmerston North when they were pipped by the Panthers.
“It’s an absolutely awesome result for Peter and his team,” said Gisborne Speedway Club president Grant MacGregor.
“The cub is very proud of them and it is a privilege to have them as part of our speedway club, and racing for Gisborne.
“They continue to add to Gisborne’s position on the national speedway map.”
Miller, George paired with Aucklanders Kyle Anderson and Daniel Hanley to clinch the titleSidecar racers Rob Miller and Red George won the Auckland best pairs at the Rosebank Speedway in Auckland on Sunday.

“It was a hard battle,” said Miller. “Kyle was on form, riding my dad Deane’s old bike.
“We worked well as a team and managed to beat other pairings that included 1NZ and the NZ Grand Prix champions.”
Brothers Brenden and Cody Gooch streetstock racing in Wellingtonn Gisborne brothers Brenden (1NZ) and Cody (6G) Gooch raced their streetstocks in the Wellington Streetstock Champs in Upper Hutt at the weekend and Cody came away with a share of the spoils.
He finished second-equal overall with a first, a sixth and a 10th place in the three races.
Brenden had a target on his back as 1NZ but won one of the three heats.
