PUTTING a ham on the Christmas Day table brought out the golfing gun in several players at Patutahi’s Xmas Hams open tournament on Saturday.

A field of nearly 120 filled the Tahi course over the day, including contingents from Opotiki and Mahia.

But it was a couple of locals who were the cream of an impressive crop.

Joe Blair was in sensational form in winning the division 2 men’s net with 76-14-62.

Charlie Taylor was equally impressive in winning the division 3 men’s net with 82-20-62.

Te Puia Springs member Iritana Ngarimu was the pick of the women. She won the women’s net with 92-28-64.

Denise Johnston equalled her best round of the year — 78 — to win the women’s gross.

Electrinet Park’s Anaru Reedy made the jaunt over the Waipaoa Bridge a successful one by winning the division 1 men’s gross with 3-under 67 — his round featuring seven birdies.

Home-course member Jace Brown had six birdies in his division 1 men’s net-winning 68-2-66, which featured a front-nine score of 4-under 31.

Others to enjoy a victory drink on the 19th were Patutahi’s Eddie Brown Junior (div 1 men’s stableford, 39 points), Waikohu’s Tipi Ruru (div 2 men’s gross, 77), Park’s Ray Grace (div 2 men’s stableford, 40pts), and Patutahi trio Mason Smith (div 3 men’s gross, 83); Dave Maloy (div 3 men’s stableford, 41pts); and Shelley Robertson (women’s stableford, 41pts).

Tony Green had an eagle-2 on the 297-metre 11th hole . . . and a quadruple bogey-8 on the fourth in his 39-point haul.

Blair went back out the next day and combined with Helen Humble to win the Guy Farmer Trophy mixed pairs South African stableford.

Robertson also continued her winning form in topping the women’s stableford with 40 points while Andy Nimmo’s 41 was the best of the men.
