Poverty BayJUST how tough it is to win the Gisborne Motors Barns-Graham Cup men’s pairs title was underlined in one hole in round 2 matches on Saturday.

Peter Clayton, according to opponent Bill Allen, made “a beautiful birdie” on the ninth hole . . . for a loss.

Allen’s partner-in-crime Roy Skuse made par-4 for a net 2 as he was getting two shots off Clayton.

Long-time BG combo Allen and Skuse went on to beat Clayton and John Pittar 4 and 3 to move into the quarterfinals and keep alive their quest for a third title.

Round 2 served up a mixture of tense and comfortable victories.
