MARY Allan emerged a double victor in the final of the Primo Cup on Saturday.

Male and female qualifiers converged on Awapuni Links to decide the champs, and a hidden partners competition was held in conjunction with the cup.

Allan and John Holmes finished the Cup final on the same score of 13 — the format was front-nine net minus back-nine stableford.

Allan was crowned the women’s winner and Holmes the men’s, and they shared the overall trophy donated by Dave and Kim Jenkins of Country Foods.

Allan’s name was drawn with Colin Christie and their combined stableford total of 80 points (40 apiece) topped the hidden partners.

The club’s annual prizegiving was also held on Saturday and it featured a special presentation to outgoing course superintendent Jimmy Walker for his 18 years of service to the club.

Walker is heading to Jack’s Point golf club in Queenstown as its operations manager.

Welcome back Dave Hall.

After a lean run of form of late, Hall rediscovered his game to win the division 2 men’s stableford with 81-17-64, for 44 points — his best round since joining Poverty Bay in October 2017.

Hall was closely followed by Dave Pirimona’s 11-par 77-12-65, for 43 points.

Nick Richardson rode the golfing rollercoaster in his division 1-winning 74-6-68, for 43 points. Richardson mixed seven birdies — four of those in the first six holes — a triple bogey and two double bogeys.

“Crazy,” he said of his round. “Three bad drives cost me.”

IAN Sykes and Doreen Goldsmith were one-point winners of the McDowell Cup mixed pairs stableford on Sunday.

The Sykes/Goldsmith combo collected 41 points to head off Pita Moana and Jillian Williams on 40, with Dick Cook and Robyn Ngatai third on 39.

JULEZ Halley marked his return to the Park fairways with victory in the men’s net on Sunday.

After a 10-year hiatus from the Park, the big-hitting arborist shot 80-10-70, including a two in his front nine of 38.

Dave Harrison teed off the weekend with 87-17-70, for 38 points, to win the men’s stableford on Saturday.

William Brown’s 3-under 33 for 20 points and Blanche Walker’s 21 points won the twilight stableford last Thursday.

A NINE-BIRDIE avalanche by William Brown almost earned him the Patutahi men’s course record on his own on Sunday.

Brown shot 7-under 63 — mixing a front nine of 2-under 33 with a back nine of 30.

“Putted the best I ever had.” said Brown, who birdied his last hole — the seventh — but felt he did not take advantage of the short par-4 18th and par-5 first, which he parred.

It was the second time he had shot 63 this year — the first coming in February in a round that featured two eagles.

Brown, who plays off a +3 at Patutahi, still won the senior men’s net with 63-+3-66.

He and Tony Akroyd jointly hold the course record.

Andy Nimmo had his career-low round at Patutahi and it deservedly earned him the junior net honours.

Nimmo shot 78-14-64.

Helen Humble posted her best 18-hole round of the year to win the women’s net with 96-33-63.
