UNLESS something miraculous or disastrous occurs over the weekend, William Brown will get his hands on the Dodgshun Cup for the third time.
Brown forged a seemingly uncatchable lead in the senior men’s division of the four-round cup series with an imperious 6-under 66 off the championship tees on Saturday.
His round, which featured eight birdies and a back nine holes of 32, gave him an 8-under total after two rounds (he shot 70 in round 1).
It put him 16 shots clear of second-placed Simon Jeune (79, 73) and even has the +2.2 handicapper sitting at the top of the senior net.
The Dodgshun Cup itself is a gross title for which players count their three best of four rounds.
Brown won it in 2014 — coincidentally 16 shots ahead of the runner-up — and 2018.
Peter Hakiwai remained top of the intermediate division gross on 167 (81, 86), three shots ahead of James Situ (87, 83), while Richard Foon marked his 60th birthday (officially Wednesday) with the best round 2 intermediate score — 81.
Bill Allen increased his junior division gross lead, adding 89 to his first-round 96 to be 11 shots clear of Peter Goodwin (98, 98).
Allen also leads the junior net while Darryn White is four shots ahead of Foon in the intermediate net.
The final two rounds of the series are on Saturday and Sunday.
Round 3 doubles as 18-hole qualifying for the men’s club championships. Senior division qualifying is 36 holes on Saturday.
