Gisborne club gymnasts go on the road

The Gisborne Gymnastics Club travelled to Hastings last weekend for the second time in 2021.

Many of the athletes moved up in skill level during the season and competed for the first time in a more difficult step.

In Step 2, Alia Sims came in second on vault and first on floor, while gaining fifth place overall.

Monroe Brouwer was first on uneven bars and third on floor.

Zeva Kinnaird came in second on beam.

Hollie Walsh was third on vault.

Lea O'Reilly placed fifth in both vault and uneven bars

India Gill took home first place on floor.

In Step 3, Lizelle Duckworth came in second on vault and fourth on floor.

Amarah Cameron was second on beam.

Georgiana Elmer was third on beam.

In Step 4, Capria Tamatea was fourth on vault, second on beam and third on floor, for third place overall.

Olivia Gardiner came in fourth on bars.

Aria Thorpe was fourth on vault and fifth on bars.

The Step 4 girls scored strongly and took home a third-place team award

In other news, three of Gisborne Gymnastic Club's athletes won spots to compete in the New Zealand gymnastics nationals in Auckland this July. Sarai Gudgeon, Sarah Hawkins and Georgia Hamblyn will represent Gisborne and the Hawke's Bay/Poverty Bay region.

These girls will all be competing or demonstrating their skills in Gisborne when the Gisborne Gymnastics Club hosts its own competition on Saturday July 3. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
