In Round 1 of the women's section, Diane Murray (Te Karaka) — in her last year in the junior ranks — had a comfortable 25-16 singles victory over Anna Colvin (Poverty Bay).
In the pairs, Te Karaka bowlers Holli Elkington (skip) and Alicia Ruru were leading but Gisborne duo Margot Willock (s) and Adrienne Torrie clawed back the deficit and won 19-14.
In the fours, Poverty Bay's Kathryn Flaugere (s), Norma Miller, Diane Doyle and Win Baker comfortably beat Gisborne's Ginny Sherriff (s), Diane Oates, Libby Clay and Joy McFarlane 13-7.
In Round 2, second-year bowler Colvin (Poverty Bay) played some good bowls and had a strong start to lead 12-5 against third-year bowler Karen Pinn (Gisborne). Pinn made a big comeback and closed it to 17-14 on the second-last end. Two shots on the last end kept the margin close but Pinn ran out of time and lost 17-16.
In the pairs, Poverty Bay's Joan Gledhill (s) and Jude Hall had a close game against Elkington and Ruru (Te Karaka) but ended up losing 20-19.
Gisborne's four had a big 23-8 win against Erica Thompson (s), Barbara Tuhi, Amelia Maynard-Green and Lyn Hayes (Te Karaka).
In Round 3, Gisborne's Pinn beat Murray, of Te Karaka, 25-7 in the singles. In the pairs, Gisborne's Willock and Torrie beat Poverty Bay's Gledhill and Hall 14-9.
In the fours, Te Karaka had a 16-4 win against Poverty Bay.
Gisborne's junior women's team were the overall winners and took home the Peck Shield with 8 points, 104 shots and a plus-36 differential. Te Karaka were runners-up with 6 points, 90 shots and a minus-16 differential, while Poverty Bay were third with 4 points, 78 shots and a minus-20 differential.
In Round 1 of the men's section, Ben Elkington (Tolaga Bay) beat Geoff Pinn (Gisborne) 25-8 in the singles on his home green. In the pairs, Peter Clay (s) and Don Oates (Gisborne) beat Anton Tashkoff (s) and Trevor Rink (Tolaga Bay) 23-10.
In the fours, Gisborne's Nathan Trowell (s), Tim Sherriff, Peter Ferris and Hugh Trafford ended up 18-17 winners against Tolaga Bay's Peter Hughes, Hori Tamihana, Hone Burema and Zaedys Hughes.
Gisborne's junior men's team were the overall winners and took home the Yelverton Shield with 4 points, 49 shots and a minus-3 differential while Tolaga Bay were runners-up with 2 points, 52 shots and a plus-3 differential.
