A gathering of 54 members of the Gisborne Bowling Club dressed in their club uniforms made for a spectacular opening to the new season.
President Tim Sherriff asked club stalwart Lorna Reeve to deliver the first bowl to begin the season.
Despite the strong winds, club members played some goodbowls, which is encouraging as the club's marquee event for graded fours, the Bellerby Cup, is being held on Saturday.
At the end of the day's play, Tim Sherriff, who has been the president for two years, decided it was better to stick with tradition. Instead of doing an extra year, he handed the president's badge over to vice-president Chris Bunyan.
