THREE former Gisborne Boys’ High School players have been named in the Hurricanes squad to play the Crusaders in the Taranaki town of Waverley tomorrow afternoon.
Toa Halafihi and Blade Thomson will be battling for the No.8 jersey. Halafihi will start in tomorrow’s clash and Thomson will replace him forthe last 40 minutes. Isaia Walker-Leawere is also in the starting 15 team at lock, ahead of James Blackwell.
Brothers Beauden and Jordie Barrett will take the field together as Hurricanes for the first time, with Beauden at first five and Jordie fullback. Also playing will be All Blacks Ardie Savea, who will start at openside and halfback TJ Perenara and left winger Julian Savea, who will come on in the second half.
“It’s been great to have our All Blacks in camp with us for the past few weeks,” said Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd. “They are all looking forward to getting back on the field, and gearing up for the start of Super Rugby.
"This is our last chance to have a look at our combinations before the season kicks off against the Sunwolves in Tokyo next Saturday so it’s an important exercise.”
