After seven years away from the country's premier secondary schools sevens competition, Gisborne Boys High School struggled to find winning form at the Condor 7s.

The side qualified in 24th place in pool play of the open boys' division, their only win coming against New Plymouth's Francis Douglas Memorial College

They lost 27-5 to New Plymouth in the bowl playoffs, then beat Wellington's St Patrick's College 15-12 to make the consolation bowl final.

The pressure and mental strain of a multi-day tournament told, with Feilding High blowing GBHS out of the water 50-0.

Gisborne Girls' High School sent an under-15s team to the competition.

GGHS exited pool play in 17th position and their tournament ended when they were beaten 29-17 by Cullinane College in the Shield semifinals.

Lytton had qualified a strong u19 girls' team for the Condor 7s but withdrew from the competition.
