It was fun for all ages at the Whangara Horse Sports, held on Whangara farm paddocks last weekend.
The event was supported and sponsored by the local community to provide an opportunity for whanau and horses to come together.
The annual event allows riders to showcase their riding ability and
skills through a variety of races, such as bending, stock horse and medley.
Sixteen-year-old Alazay Manuel was a standout rider this year. She has competed in horse sports since she was a toddler and now competes against adults. She won several events.
Organiser Mihi Love said over 40 riders travelled from all over the district to attend the horse sports.
