Gisborne Motorcycle Sports Club will hold its annual fun day at Makorori Beach tomorrow.

There will be no lap-scoring or points; it will be a fun-run event.

Organisers say they are catering for all riders, from four-year-olds to baby boomers, and anyone born before the baby boomers can race free of charge.

Instead of the long straights it will be more of a TT-style track with a lot of turns.

Classes will be decided on the day, and no rider will be left out.

The long straights will also be available for any rider wanting some high-speed fun.

The 20-minute or longer adults’ 50cc race will be back. Riders can enter as a team ($10 a rider) or as individuals.

The bike can be a 50cc scooter, dirt bike or all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Any bike seeming to have a big advantage will be dealt with by the officials and buckets of seawater. Fancy dress applies for this race.

The event is promoted as being ideal for those who have a bike but don’t normally race, or for those who want to find out whether their son or daughter wants to get into motorcycle racing.

Full motocross gear is not required for this event, but the club does ask that riders have long sleeves, gloves and boots that cover the ankles. A good crash helmet with either goggles or a visor is also required.

Riders are asked to make sure bikes and ATVs have no broken brake or clutch levers.

A $10 entry fee applies in all classes.

After the racing, a lolly scramble will be held for children.

Sign-on is from 8am. Racing starts at 9am at Makorori Beach tomorrow.
