PUSH OFF: Ngati Porou Seafoods Gisborne Boys’ High School first 15 lock Gabe Te Kani prepares to fend off a Hastings player in last week’s Super 8 clash at the Rectory. Although Gisborne lost, Te Kani enhanced his reputation with another outstanding game. “As well as scoring a try, he was superb in general play,” Gisborne coach Tom Cairns said. “He’s got a good turn of pace and his covering work on defence was excellent.”

GISBORNE Boys’ High School first 15 coach Tom Cairns expects a free-flowing game when his side take on New Plymouth Boys’ High School at the Rectory at 12.30pm tomorrow.
“New Plymouth are travelling well this year, having beaten Hamilton Boys’ High a couple of weeks ago,” said Cairns, who welcomescentre Nathan Rangihuna back from injury.
“It’s good to have Nathan back in the starting 15. It means Naera Tipoki can revert to his flanker’s role. It will be the first time we’ll have had our three main loosies on the paddock since Game 3.”
In last week’s loss to Hastings Boys’ High, blindside flanker Jakob Teneti made his comeback from a fractured cheekbone, with Tipoki wearing the No.13 jersey.
“It’s good to have those three back together again. Unfortunately, we’ll still be without another regular, hooker Colby Putnam, who is recovering from a head knock. He’s close to playing and if he wasn’t going to the Hurricanes secondary schools training camp next week he could have played.
