Four-goal bag to Humphreys the highlight

FOUR goals to winger Jaime Humphreys provided the highlight in Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa’s 7-0 victory over Te Aowera on the LJ Hooker Turf at Harry Barker Reserve last night.

It was another strong performance from the country girls.

“It was not the best first half from the girls,” said their coach, Tony Scragg.

“They led 3-0 at the break, but in the second half they went up a gear.

Humphreys scored two goals in each half.

“TA’s goalkeeper, Hinemoa Sidney, played very well but she had a lot of attacking play to deal with,” Scragg said.

In the other match last night, the unbeaten YMP A women’s side also won well.

They defeated GMC Gold 9-0.

“It was only 3-0 at halftime and Gold had done well to keep the scoreline down to that number,” Scragg said.

“But in the second half, YMP just proved too clinical. They created plenty of chances and took most of them.

“I understand, though, that GMC Gold were pleased to keep the scoreline under double figures.”

Two games will be played on the turf tonight. At 6pm, Gisborne Girls’ High School play YMP B and, at 7.30pm, Paikea take on GMC Kowhai.
