Karen Hay and Pat Johansen are no strangers to Benson Cup success.

So it was perhaps no surprise when they won the Gisborne Park women’s pairs handicap matchplay title for the eighth time between them at the weekend.

Hay, off a 12-handicap, and Johansen (25) beat Mihi Marino (22) and Barbara Woods (26) 5 and 3 in the final.

The winners went into the decider having each won it three times but with different partners.

Hay was defending the crown she won with Jean Foot last year.

Former Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay representative and Park legend Hay was impressive tee-to-green, according to a spectator while never-say-die Johansen proved “a silent assassin” on several occasions.
