They won all three races.
“We were both stoked.
“That’s a title I have never won as a driver, and it was a first podium finish for Red in the East Coast champs.”
Saloon car racer Daniel Cook (77G) won the East Coast saloon championship at the same track that night.
He backed that up with another win in the Easter championships in Rotorua on Saturday night.
His brother Ethan (76G) took third place at both meetings.
“Daniel’s driving was awesome both nights,” Ethan said.
“He was pretty unstoppable.
“He’s a hard man to catch when he’s in front.”
Streetstock racer Cody Gooch (6G) won the Manawatu streetstock championship on Friday night at the Palmerston North speedway, then took third place in the best pairs at Meeanee on Saturday night.
His brother Brenden (1NZ) finished runner-up in the East Coast championships at Meeanee.
“Brenden was running in first place on points going into the third and final heat when he was put into the wall and lost four places,” Neil Gooch said.
“But he still finished second overall.”
The Gooch family scored again when “The Silver Fox”, Dave Gooch (7G), won the East Coast production saloon car championship at Meeanee on Saturday night.
Gooch took two seconds and a first in the heats and then won the title in a run-off for first place against a driver from Hawke’s Bay.
“I beat him into the first corner, and held him off for the four laps of the run-off,” Gooch said.
“He was right behind me the whole way.
“It sure feels awesome to win that title for the second year in a row.”
Club president Grant MacGregor said it was a brilliant weekend for the club.
“Congratulations to all the guys.”
