THE sun came out just in time for the opening race meeting of the Eastland Kart Club on Sunday. There was a slight delay to start the racing due to the weekend’s weather, but this didn’t hinder the ability of the karters to put on a spectacular display of fast and sometimes furious competition for the 300 spectators that came to watch.

The track water boy Roger Moss managed to win the Shifter class with AJ Keywood. There were a number of members competing in several classes throughout the day. Those who impressed were Richard Taylor, Fern Sutherland and Sharyn Rogers, who members finished in the top three of all the classes they raced in.

Young KT 100 driver Finn Henstock proved he is still the driver to beat by winning the KT 100’s for the day, again showing age is no barrier.

Not only local karters were in action, Junior Restricted driver Terence Durrell travelled over from Rotorua and won his class.
