Surf City Squash picked up eight awards at the annual Squash Eastern Awards in Napier for their efforts over the 2020 season.

Casey Miller and Jereme Taylor both picked up the awards for most improved senior player.

Miller, a member of the C Grade women's team, improved by 450 points on the grading list from C2 to B2.

Taylor, who started playing squash only last year and was a member of the Men's F Grade team, improved by 900 points from F grade to E1.

Miller also picked up the award for Senior Sportswoman of the Year for her efforts as part of the C Grade women's team who won the C Grade Superchamps title and her C Grade national champion of champions win.

Willz Donnelly was named Senior Sportsman of the Year for his continued climb up the New Zealand rankings.

Donnelly, who won the Eastern Open, placed fifth in the nationals after coming into the competition seeded 10th.

Willie Donnelly was named Development Coach of the Year. He has rebuilt the junior programme at Surf City and this award recognised his efforts.

The Surf City C Grade women and Surf City F Grade men shared the award for Team of the Year for their national titles this year, and the club was named 2020 Club of the Year.

As a result of winning the district awards the club, coach and teams of the year are all nominated for the Squash New Zealand Awards which take place on December 3.
