“We just ran open male and female races for the board, surf race and ironman, and we put everyone in together.
“In the men’s board, for example, there were 44 competitors, all in the water at once. It was pretty spectacular.
The coaches from the competing clubs ran the event.
Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae head coach Cory Hutchings said it was an amazing day.
“The kids said it was one of the coolest events they’d done in lifesaving.
“The camaraderie was excellent, with some good hard racing and lots of fun.”
Hutchings said Lachie Falloon went well and so, too, did Nathan Proctor, particularly in the ironman.
“Georgie Pitkethley was pretty outstanding in the women’s event, and Jessie Kapene was quickest in the beach sprint.”
Williams picked out Jack Keepa as one of the standouts in the surf race, board and ironman.
“Jay Ryan-Emerre did really well in the board.”
Dawson Building Midway head coach Matt Sutton said the day served a great purpose
“It was a day of good racing that was much needed by the athletes,” he said.
“It was as much about them catching up with their mates from other clubs as it was about the racing.
“Sophie Petro stood out in her races.
“She raced really well against athletes much her senior.”
Williams said: “Every single person on the beach had a huge smile on their face the whole time.
“It was a really nice, happy send-off to the season.”
