Campion College will play Gisborne United and Bohemians will take on Gisborne Girls' High School in women's football tomorrow to determine the Braybrook Cup finalists.

Campion beat Gisborne Laundry Services Wainui Riverina 2-1 in one quarterfinal last Sunday in another thrilling game.

United dominated their quarterfinal, beating Tatapouri Marist Thistle 12-0.

The game between Campion and Wainui Riverina was preceded by a minute's silence to support the Allan family after Campion coach Phil Allan's father Peter passed during the week.

Blake Mulrooney said the girls played their hearts out to support the Allan family.

Peter was a regular supporter on the Campion sideline, alongside his wife Terry.

Wainui Riverina had the better of the early exchanges, but Campion scored first, in the 15th minute.

Tayla Broughton received the ball just inside her own half and passed to Miah Somerton, whose first-time through ball found Dara Mulrooney. Her angled drive went in at the far corner.

Five minutes later, Sofia Zame scored to give Campion a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half started with Wainui-Riverina piling on the pressure as they searched for a way back into the game.

Lucy Allan and Torepe Taumaunu were outstanding in the Campion midfield.

Wainui Riverina had some success with the ball knocked long to strikers Larisa Allan and Katarina Ngarimu.

In the 50th minute, Wainui Riverina scored when Allan headed the ball home from a Lily Hall-Auckram corner to the far post.

Campion's back four of Breanna Ferris, Maggie Preston, Bree Allan and Imogen Amor-Bendall were pegged back in the penalty area as Wainui threw everything at them for 10 minutes and Campion keeper Grace Levy performed heroics in goal.

Wainui leftback Tori Burt pushed forward and her long throws were dangerous.

Both teams battled right to the end as Campion held on to take the win.

United goalkeeper Mel Knight said her team's passing game and control of possession were vital when they were down a couple of players at the beginning of their game against Marist Thistle.

Kim-Maree Larby, Lydia Wood and Chelsea Simpson linked up well down the right-hand side and created goalscoring opportunities.

By halftime, United had 11 players on the field and were 6-0 up.

The United pressure continued in the second half and, despite the best efforts of Marist Thistle goalkeeper Mandy Owen, United scored six more goals.

Scorers were Simpson (3), Larby (3), Amelia Paull (2), Mel Knight (2), Dana Kingsbeer and Wood.
