AIMS GAMES — INDOOR BOWLS

Dylan Foster and his lead, cousin Kayla Trowell, from Gisborne Intermediate, have won the 2018 AIMS Games indoor bowls pairs title.

They beat another Gisborne pair, Ilminster Intermediate’s Alex Shanks and TJ Taylor-Paea, in the final yesterday.

This backed up Dylan’s victory in the singles two days before and also gave him back-to-back titles in the pairs, having won the event last year leading for Kayla’s brother Nathan.

The pairs competition started with 150 combinations and after the qualifying rounds were played, 56 teams made their way through to post-section play.

Foster and Trowell made their way through to the final comfortably with only one match going to a deciding game, that being in the quarterfinals against a team from Somerville Intermediate.

In the playoff for third and fourth, cousins Karlos Howe and Hasley Howe from Opotiki Primary School beat Gavi Singh and Lovejit Sandhu from Papamoa College in a three-game match.

Karlos and Hasley lost the first game but came back to win the second and win the decider.
