THE Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union’s judiciary appeal committee did not suppress its decision last week, nor the name of the official who appealed his suspension sentence, as reported in Saturday’s paper.
Suppression orders in the case of four club officials who went on to the field during a scuffle
in a premier rugby match at Rugby Park earlier this month were made at the original judicial committee hearing, not the appeal committee. The names of all four officials were suppressed in that original finding.
The Pirates club chose to name its two officials involved, and the name of the Ngatapa official who appealed his sentence was able to be made public because the appeal committee made no suppression orders. Name suppression for the other Ngatapa official remains in place from the original hearing.
Apologies for the misunderstanding.
