She set two Comet club records. The 100-metre individual medley mark she bettered with a time of 1 minute 14.84 seconds had stood for 12 years. The other record was for the 200m butterfly.
Imogen Amor-Bendall had four gold, four silver and two bronze medals, and two relay wins. She was second behind Kirkpatrick in the 11yr girls’ age group, and set Comet club records in the 50m and 100m butterfly.
Angus Blair dominated the 11yr boys’ competition, taking overall honours with five gold and five silver medals. Blair’s club record time of 1:14.60 for the 100m backstroke bettered a mark that had stood for 19 years.
Jamie Joblin is proving to be a national age-group qualifier to watch. With four gold, two silver and five bronze medals, third place in his age group, and club records in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, Joblin continued his great form this season.
Holly Fisher is starting to shine, qualifying for the October national short-course champs and next year’s national age-group champs. She came away with two gold medals and a bronze in a tough division.
Rixon Skudder excelled, finishing runner-up in the boys’ 10yr division, with five gold and five silver medals and a bronze. Skudder continues to stand out every swim meet and his progress is exciting to watch.
Angus Baker, third in his age group, Emma Niven, Lily Hulley, Mahia Braithwaite and Tamsyn Brown all repeatedly medalled throughout the weekend and contributed to the team’s overall success.
The 12-and-under girls’ relay team of Imogen Amor-Bendall, Hayley Durston, Jodiesha Kirkpatrick and Jessikah Fearnley dominated in both the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley relays.
The 10-and-under girls’ team of Lily Hulley, Natalie Johnson, Mahia Braithwaite and Chloe Moore won the 200m individual medley relay.
Coaches Andrew Bull and Bianca Shaw said that, in addition to being thrilled with these “fantastic” results, they were delighted that officials had gone out of their way to tell them what polite and friendly swimmers they had.
This reflected Comet’s philosophy of not only being successful in the pool, but also of shining in an “encouraging, friendly, tight team atmosphere and culture”.
