MORE than 180 swimmers took to the water last weekend at the annual Comet Fastwater at the Gisborne Olympic Pool. Local and visiting clubs have supported this meet for 13 years.

With clear skies and high-20s temperatures, the swimming was of a high standard. One of the standout performers for Comet was Jack Keepa who, as well as setting five meet records, set his first club record in the 50-metre backstroke.

Eight-year-old Rixon Skudder qualified for the New Zealand junior championships as a 10-and-under competitor, in the process setting a meet record in the 50m backstroke.

Jamie Joblin was the other first-time national qualifier, going under the 12-year-old 100m breaststroke mark by 0.20 of a second.

Team points: Comet Swimming Club 2021, Enterprise 1330, Aquahawks 965.
