Poverty Bay’s Jack Whitehead-McKay, in his first showing as a ‘keeper at Northern Districts tournament level this season, had a great game standing up to the stumps.
He held three remarkable catches — Fletcher off the bottom edge trying to cut a Barbier leg-break, captain Spencer Wills off the back of his bat trying to pull a wrong ‘un from the leggie, and Liam Keaney (7) from an unplayable ball from Haynes that stuck in the gloves in the 25th over.
Coastlands offie Darcy Collett (2-13 off five) gave his team the perfect start with the wicket of Poverty Bay captain Nathan Trowell for a duck in the first over of the second innings.
Wills (2-25 off six) was the central figure downwind. His right-arm inswing at good pace went between bat and pad and over the bails eight times.
Collett bowled well, as did Nico Brown, whose unrewarded 0 for 7 off two overs, including a maiden over.
Poverty Bay No.5 Daniel Watts (27 from 25) hit five boundaries and second-drop Loffler struck four fours in his 26 from 33.
They put on a 39-run partnership for the fourth wicket — the home team’s most productive stand.
No.8 Sebastian Wilson (13 not out off eight balls) was the last man standing as Poverty Bay was bowled out for 100 in exactly 24 overs.
Trowell junior, who led his team to victory against Bay of Plenty Lakelands, took positives out of the game.
“We were committed in the field. Sebastian ran back and around from mid-wicket to mid-on to catch Harsh (Patel, BOPC’s hard-hitting no.5) off Jaycob’s bowling and Cohen held on to a good catch off Luke to get Jordan (Smith).
