SPEEDWAY

PRODUCTION saloon racer Seth McKay was named Competitor of the Year at Gisborne Speedway Club’s annual awards on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old featured heavily on podiums in many championships across the summer but his crowning achievement was victory in the New Zealand Grand Prix.

He also won the club’s Most Improved award in production saloons.

The past season was the first in a production saloon for McKay, who prides himself on being a clean driver.

He was the Gisborne champion, was second in the Waikato titles, third in the Bay of Plenty, first in the Easter champs at Rotorua, first in the East Coast and Hawke’s Bay titles and first in the Phil Walsh Memorial.

He also holds the lap record in his class at the Gisborne, Huntly and Rotorua tracks.

McKay’s sponsor is local garage Sutherland Automotive and he appreciates that support.
